MomoCon

Our next big announcement is that the Dukes will be at MomoCon in Atlanta. For those of you not in the know, MomoCon is on May 22-25 and held in Atlanta, GA. MomoCon is a a geek-culture convention and is growing fast. Last year they had 56,000 attendees! That’s almost at Gen Con levels. MomoCon is a super great partner for us - they’re really excited to have us and have been really supportive of what we do.

The Dukes of Highland will be running 2 games over the long weekend - Den of Wolves on the Friday and Deephaven on the Saturday. There’s more information on our event page so head over there to see the times, event details, and how you can get your tickets. Like Gen Con, everything goes through their system so you’ll need to buy a badge first, then sign up for events later.

Den of Wolves

Most of you reading this probably know what Den of Wolves is by now but for anyone who’s not familiar, Den of Wolves is one of the best games on the market. It’s got an awesome theme: the last vestiges of humanity fleeing for their lives in a fleet of spaceships whist being pursued by an overwhelming, relentless enemy force. It always runs super smooth with a small control team, clearly defined roles, and simple rules. It’s probably the second-most run game across the globe.

If you haven’t played it yet, now is your chance. All the control team have run this multiple times before and you’ll have a great time.

Deephaven

Deephaven is the fantasy themed, role-play heavy game of Dwarves creating a new mountain home and it is our largest game to date (its maximum player count is 70). It requires a lot of creativity out of the players but when you get the right mix, it can be an amazing experience. When we ran it last, the control team got our first standing ovation. The players were all super grateful at how attentive the facilitators were and how willing to go with the flow everyone was. We told an awesome story over the course of 6 hours and it was extremely memorable.

Everyone plays a unique character who is a member of both a clan (read. family) and a guild (read. job). You also have a drinking buddy located somewhere else in the game so there’s always lots of people you have reasons to have relationships with. If you’re ever at a loss on what to do next, just join in on someone else’s schemes and see where those take you.

Our first run of Spaceship 13 went extremely well and I’m really happy. As a reminder, this was technically a playtest because there are a lot of experimental design choices for megagames and I was unsure how well they’d play out on the day. Naturally there are kinks to work out for version 1.0 but it’s definitely a solid game and everyone seemed to have a good time.

There is a lot more information available over on the website, the link to which you can find here: SPACESHIP 13

And you should definitely go read the wonderful after-action report written by Frazzles the clown which I’ve saved on my blog.

If you’re interested in playing the new-and-improved version of the game, you’ll have to wait until Gen Con. Details on that coming soon.

Event Horizon

Just a friendly reminder, tickets for Event Horizon are on sale now. Signups for the game are steady so gather your crew and come play with us. As a reminder, unless you sign up in the last week, you’re almost guaranteed to be on the same team as your friends and it’s a given that you’ll have the most fun playing with your pals. This is another one of those games that has been played all over the world and has a strong reputation in the board game community. It has some solid mechanics but was designed by a whole bunch of folks from Sweden so has strong LARP roots. That means there’s lots of room for player creativity and we’ll have an experienced control team on hand to facilitate. Learn more about the game using this link and go to the store page to get your tickets.
