This is a rubric I came up with when designing Gods of the Ancient World and is how I judge the quality of a megagame package i.e. what you get when you buy the entire megagame from the designer. We believe that to grow the hobby, it’s important to make running games as easy as possible and that if you follow this guide, you’ll be giving everything the game runner needs to have a successful event.
Clear player instructions
Easy to understand big picture / theme overview
Megagame 101 document (what a MG is, who is control, the “goal” of the game)
Documentation includes control guide
Control guide is per role
All components ready to print
Example room table/chair setup
Includes production guide
Quantity of each component required
Quantity of each document required
Instructions on how to create components or examples of what to buy
Examples of where to buy components
Information on when to release plot points
Ways to contact the designer
Control guide includes scenario planning for big out-side-the-box ideas
Control guide includes recommendations of slimming down the game if not at full capacity. Better yet, specify which roles get cut for each variation of player count.
Strip out all the old versions and designer notes (spreadsheets with data etc.)
