Welcome to the world, clone <insert ID here>.
You have just been through the {{quite painful}} process of {{something akin to}} birth. Please attempt to get all the {{gross}} birthing fluids off you as quickly as possible and put on your assigned jumpsuit. You are aboard Spaceship 13, owned and operated by The Redwire Corporation™.
Spaceship 13 is a state of the art spaceship capable of faster-than-light travel and performs a multitude of functions across the galaxy. To ensure the smooth operation of the ship, the Redwire Corporation™ has installed an advanced AI system, lovingly called MOTHER, to monitor all systems.
We have cameras installed in all rooms to ensure your safety so know that MOTHER will always be watching you. Please remember, MOTHER always looks after her good children.
For your safety {{and so we can track your every move}}, you have been gifted the CORTEXTM brain implant. For legal reasons, we have to tell you that there has never been any adverse side effects with the implant**. The layout of the ship and where everything is onboard has been uploaded to the CORTEXTM implant {{system error 6202}}. In the event that something went wrong, or if you have any questions on what you should be doing, please refer to the provided {{pages missing}} user guide. The CORTEXTM implant will also provide you with a real-time map of the Spaceship and will allow you track your fellow crewmates as they move around the ship. This will help you get help when you need it and provide help when your {{ungrateful}} crewmates need it.
Your designation is <insert job here> and we can’t wait for you to get started. The new clone birthing process should’ve provided you with an elaborately crafted childhood set of memories so you know you’ve always been loved by Redwire™ and your {{family}} colleagues.
In the event of untimely death from things outside of Redwire’s™ control, your body can be recloned {{this process is very expensive and the cost will be deducted from your wages}}. You’ll {{probably}} retain all your memories from previous clones, but in a safe and secure environment like Spaceship 13, that is incredibly unlikely to occur.
So sit back, relax, and get to work as soon as possible, family member <insert ID here>.
**<addendum not found>
Spaceship 13 is a whimsical sci-fi megagame where you play as freshly cloned employees of the Redwire Corporation™ aboard an unpredictable, AI-monitored starship. Guided by MOTHER, the ship’s advanced (and slightly unsettling) AI, you’ll navigate quirky roles like barman, botanist, janitor, or even captain.
Your job is to keep the ship running, tackle challenges, and survive long enough to get paid—though re-cloning is always an option if you meet an untimely end. Along the way, you’ll face traitors, mutants, malfunctioning systems, and bizarre alien threats. Creativity is key, with open-ended recipes and experiments letting you shape the chaos.
Expect humor, danger, and corporate absurdity as you explore life on a chaotic ship where every day is an adventure. Whether you’re solving mysteries or making questionable choices, Spaceship 13 offers endless fun and a galaxy of surprises!
Spaceship 13 is heavily inspired by an old video game called Spacestation 13 - a very silly, very janky multiplayer game played with hundreds of other players where anything can happen and where amazing stories are told. If you’re not familiar with that video game, Spaceship 13 is also inspired by the video game Among Us, the board game Nemesis, the TV show Lower Decks, and the table-top role-playing game Paranoia. Surely you know one of those references, right?
Spaceship 13 leans more towards the board game side of the megagame hobby where the actions you can take are mostly very clear and mechanical. If you’re a board gamer, you’ll recognize the action selection mechanic, and if you’ve played any sort of dungeon crawler or tactical combat game, you’ll be familiar with the Attack, Move, Drop, Trade, Craft actions. The game is designed to be control-light. i.e. You can read the rules, be taught the game, and then need very little help from the facilitators.
Even though it is heavily mechanical, it is still a megagame at its heart. There is room for experimentation, player-led objectives, complex communication, misinformation and all the other facets you know and love from playing in any other megagame.
On the other end of the spectrum are games like Deephaven which are very free-form. Essentially you’re given a piece of paper and told to “go have fun”! (that’s a very simplistic view of the game).
