Creating and Buying Components
Since the last playtest I’ve made significant movements towards the final components. That playtest in particular showed me what I had to take into account for the components - Specifically sizing. Physical components such as units needed to be slightly smaller compared with the map sizing. A friend of mine gave me an old copy of Axis and Allie’s so we decided to use the tanks and ships from that. It meant that I’ve been painting them over the past several weeks - different colors representing different nations so they can be easily identified on the day. Plus, a lick of paint adds a level of quality that’s important when running a professional event.
And the map needed to be significantly larger. Staples.com was a great resource to help size and order the paper components. In case you’re interested in why the game has a cost associated with it, I spent close to $300 on maps and other UI elements, and that excludes all the document printing I’m doing at home.
This is the finalized main map. It’s called a banner, printed on a weird plastic paper material and is 3 ft by 6 ft.
